Converting a ntfs image to work in parallels???

I can't seem to find this anywhere. I have an XP image that is used for our university. The image was made on a dual boot mac and them imaged using NETRESTORE, so it's now .ntfs image file.

How can I use this with Parallels instead of having to install the OS from scratch and reconfig it? I'm assuming there should be a way to maybe make another image file (ISO) or something and copy the ntfs image over to it?

hi,
try to rename your ntfs image with *.hdd extension and add to VM harddisk points to it image.
Note: make a backup of your image before!

If you have already exists VM then go to VM configuration ("Edit->Virtual machine" Parallels menu). Press there "Add" button and at appeared devices list specify "Hard Disk" and press "Next". At the next wizard page specify "Use existing virtual hard disk image" and press Next. At the next page specify path to your renamed to *.hdd form image file and press Finish. Then apply VM configuration changes with pressing OK and try to start VM.

If you didn't create VM at Parallels yet then startup Parallels Desktop and first thing that you should to see is OS installation assistant. Specify "Custom" operating system installation mode and press Next. On the next wizard page specify type of Windows system that places at your image. On the next page specify necessary amount of RAM for VM (you can change nothing if agree with default value there). On the next page (virtual Hard Disk options) specify "Use existing image file". Then you should specify image path as i described above. Proceed with the rest wizard steps. On the last page cancel providing by wizard OS installation (uncheck checkbox "Start Windows installation") and press Finish. Then try to start newly created VM.
