Core2Duo - Hardware Virtualization

Hi,

I'm running a Core2Duo E6300 on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 motherboard. Host OS is Windows XP (SP2). Parallels Workstation is the latest available version.

In the BIOS I've enabled VT but Parallels Workstation does not use hardware virtualization. I've set the acceleration level to high and I can check/uncheck the option for hardware acceleration.

IMO this means PWkst should use VT, right? The advanced dialog in the help|about dialog also mentions VT is off.

I've checked the options in Virtual PC 2007, too and also got some hints that VT is not supported. I've flashed the latest BIOS on my MB but that did not help either.

How can I proceed? Did I miss any drivers? When installing PWkst and after rebooting I got a strange error saying: "Error occurred when installing Parallels Hypervisor"

BTW I've installed PWkst on a new Windows XP Pro.
 
Could you try to disable VT option in the BIOS and try again? Once I expirience problem with reversed by mistake VT BIOS option - VT was actually on only with off setting in the BIOS.

thanks for reply. I tried your suggestion and set the BIOS settings to False, but the option "Enable hardware virtualization support" in tab "VM Flags" is still enabled and checked. "Acceleration level" is set to high:

This means no matter if I switch on or off the VT settings in BIOS I get the same result in ParWkst. :(

you know what I've recently found out? On my second PC, with an AMD 64 3700+ (not VT capable), the "VM Flags" tab shows a gray, disabled "Enable hardware virtualization support" option!

This means that ParWkst knows about an existing VT support not only from BIOS but detects this using another way. I get this impression because of my previous posting and your suggestion to turn off VT in BIOS and ParWkst did not disable this VM option at all.
 
VT Support

Call and talk to the manufacture of you board. There seems to be a bug in some of these BIOS's that prevents VT-x from correctly enabling.
I had several go arounds with Toshiba before they got it correct on my notebook.
From what I've read it appears that several manufactures are not testing VT-x on there machines to make sure its implemented correctly.
