I have Parallels Desktop 16 for Mac (Business Edition) running on a 2 year old MacBook. I just got a new MacBook with an M1 chip. Will Parallels Desktop 16 will work with the new M1 chip MacBook?
If it's possible I'd like to transfer my license from the old MacBook to the new one, assuming version 16 works on the new one.

PD 16.5 is the first version of Parallels that works with M-series Macs, so you can continue using PD 16. You might have to contact Parallels Support to transfer the license, but it is definitely possible.

How well PD 16 still works is another matter. I know that at least one user has problems updating Windows now. Also PD 16 doesn't have the ability to easily install Windows on ARM with a direct download option. That was introduced with a later version of PD 17 and further improved in PD 18. If you don't mind building a Windows ISO using uupdump.net or installing an Insider Preview, you can give PD 16 a try. Otherwise I would recommend getting PD 18.

Thanks. I'm now trying to get PD 18 running on the new MacBook. It is giving me an error trying to activate. Working with support through facebook messenger to solve that but it's slow going.
