DHCP stopped working

I've got Parallels 6 for Mac that has been running just fine since I installed it. It's the latest version; the Check for Updates says there are none.

I also have the latest Lion and updates installed on my Mac.

My VMs are all running Win XP (SP2); they've been working fine for a long time.

I was running Parallels and suspended the VM I was working on yesterday.

I came back today and resumed the VM, and now it won't connect to the internet. The network connection says "Little or no connectivity" and the network connection icon in the System Tray shows a little yellow yield sign over it.

I've tried my other two VMs and they are now showing the same thing.

None of them will connect to the internet.

The Parallels Tools are all up-to-date.

When I look at internet settings in XP that I know how to dig out, there's no IP getting set from DHCP.

The Network Settings dialog has a "Repair" button on it. When I click it, it does nothing for about one minute, then says it cannot repair the connection because it can't get a response from the DHCP server

What's going on?

Everything was running just fine yesterday!

Hi,

please make sure that you are using Shared Networking. Then click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all" (make sure that all output fits to the window). Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID.

Hm.. in the report I see that VM is in Bridged to Default Adapter mode. This mode is not guaranteed to work in all environments. May be something has changed on the WiFi access point. I'd suggest to switch to the SharedNetworking, if you don't have some specific reason for Bridged.

Also I see that MAC-address of the VM is set to 00-12-82-98-74-E6, it is strongly suggested to not change default MAC-address (it starts with 00-1c-42), because it may cause conflicts in the rest of network.

Another strange thing, is that previous startup time of the VM is 24-august (and the last one is today, 04-november)..

Look, I've got three VMs, one of which I use periodically -- I've been using it over the past few weeks.

This particular one is an empty VM that I don't use much.

They were all cloned from the same VM way back when I set them up with Parallels 3 I believe. At the time, I think it said you MUST set up VMs using Bridged access to the host. I did. And I've never had reason to change it.

These settings have literally not changed in years.

The main VM worked yesterday, and today the network won't connect in ANY of them. I get the exact same symptoms in all of them.

Is this something that rebooting the wireless router might fix? I started having some strange problems with a few web sites yesterday and had to flush my cache and cookies (on OS X).

I rebooted my WiFi router. That seems to have corrected the problem for whatever reason.

I also switched to SharedNetworking per your suggestion.
