Disc identity changes from to windows

I have a backup disc used mainly for windows files, which shows as disc w in mac but disc f when its refreshed in windows. How can I set up the discs to keep just one identity ?
 
Hello MichaelC8,
We recommend you to Rename the backup disc or hard drive to have a common identity because Windows virtual machine drive label varies from Mac OS X due to shared volumes.
 
Yes understood, but hpw do I rename a disc. I don't seem to be able to rename it in Mac, and Windows is refusing to accept the new name ?
