DOS Program that uses ANSI graphics

I have Point of Sale software that runs under DOS. It uses ANSI graphics for text (i.e. white letters on red background). The program is old, but quite good (clean, intuitive, fast & reliable). Currently runs under XP SP3.

Running under Parallels, XP SP3, the program runs, but screen is black. The program is running and appears to be working in that (memorized) menu selections can be made, but there is no text display. The screen is all black.

Any ideas?
