downloading application "needs administrator rights"

I am trying to download an application onto the parallels desktop on my home laptop that allows me to log on to a program that isn't Mac compatible, via an internet portal through my workplace. I first have to log into the portal and then when I start the program it asks to download the application. It seems to download fine but after downloading I can't run/install it because a dialogue box pops up that says I need "administrator rights" but I am logged in as the administrator. I am running parallels 4.0. Any suggestions? Thanks.
 
What version of Windows are you using? Can you right click the .exe and select "Run as..." or "Run as administrator"?
 
Does that mean using "Run as..." doesn't do anything?

If you right click the Start menu, do you see menu items "Open All Users" and "Explore All Users"? If you do then you have administrator rights.

Is the program downloaded to the drive containing Windows (usually the C:\ drive)?

Maybe check the Security tab in the installer's Properties.
 
I don't have a "run as" option and can't tell which drive it's going to since it just says temporary folder. If I right click the start menu I see the options to view users so I must be logged in as the administrator. Any other suggestions.
 
You don't have a "Run as" option because you're not right clicking the installer because you don't know where it is.

When you download a program, you are usually given a Run, Save, or Cancel option. Use the Save option to save the program to the C:\ drive. Then right click it to check Properties -> Security. Then right click it for the Run As option.
 
Ok I tried that and found the run as and it didn't work either. I clicked properties but didn't find the security tab. Thanks for continuing to suggest ideas.
