Dual boot install

I can see some advantages in having Parallels point to a Dual Boot partition. Some of these will go away with the new version of Parallels - and there might even be some disadvantags (in backups and such - I don't know).

But I keep hearing that Dual Boot requires a single Windows disk install. That means no upgrade disk and no XP disk before Service Pack 2.

When I installed Parallels, I didn't have this limitation, but I never installed Dual Boot.


Is my understanding correct? Are there other problems in using Dual Boot with Parallels?

Bootcamp requires you to install with an SP2 version of XP.. If you dont have SP2 integrated CD, then search google for "slipstream sp2" and there will be info on how to integrate SP2 into your existing XP install disk and burn a new cd. You also cant use an upgrade disk, as you have no way of ejecting the XP disk during install, to insert a qualifying products disk for checking.

Yup.. cos in Parallels you can use Pre SP2 disks and if you have an upgrade disk, you can attach an image file of a qualifying product and it will be seen during installation. If you are not using Apples Bootcamp product, you will only be installing into a virtual drive.

This problem isnt actually a Parallels issue at all.. These are Apple bootcamp requirements.

Your poll options dont really make sense, as having the correct version of windows is an Apple requirement, not a parallels one, and asside from having to reboot the machine all the time, you dont get any additional benefits from using Parallels with a previously installed bootcamp installation.
