El Capitan Beta to a new VM

I tried loading an El Capitan Beta to an old VM. No joy. The installer doesn't.

There is no error. It apparently just dies as soon as it opens. I can see the icons move on the dock like they're making space but then shift right back. It's a known issue on the boards and there's a workaround using Terminal. Anyway, I transferred it from a copy of EC that I loaded on an old Mac.
