I'm trying to install ESX 3.5 as guest to 5th parallels (beta, 8898).
I've used "Red Hat Linux 5 64-bit" profile to get ESX installation working in vmware fusion. By the way, I couldn't installed ESX in vmware desktop for the same reason, no network detected, but when I've converted a fusion image installed ESX detected network without any problems.
Here's a link about installing ESX to vmware desktop, pretty simple.
ESX 4 suggest inserting an image with custom drivers, I guess it's not really hard to create it. But my goal for now is ESX 3.5.
I've tried to convert a fusion vm with ESX, but it fails to start, didn't figure out the reason yet, looks like it thinks that HDD changed.
Is there anything else to try? Probably a way to change emulating NIC chip? Anything else?
