.exe is not a valid Win32 application - from a DVD

Parallels 4,5,6 worked fine for me. Presently on a Dual 3 GHz Quad Core Intel 5300 with 12Gb Ram. 6 worked flawlessly and I upgraded to 7 and upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I get this error trying to launch an .exe from a DVD. The same process always worked fine in 6 and on Leopard. The ONLY thing I did was upgrade to 7 and Snow Leopard. I've read the other threads with this error message and tried all that was stated - but still can't read it from the DVD.

If I try and transfer the app to my drive it says it has 0 kb on the drive - so do the avi files it is supposed to read.
If I launch an older version of the application I already have on my drive and try to read the .avi files on the DVD it is supposed to read it says there is no data in the avi files - yet I can read other avi files on the drive with the older program on the drive. I can get everything to work properly in Bootcamp - so the files on the DVD are fine.

I'm running 7 build 7.0.15054.

Parallels has a bug they are not willing to admit, it seems.

Any solutions anyone?
 
Since you are so sure it's a bug I was kind of unsure if I should say something, because it's always hard to change a person's convictions.

But I'll try to help you, not because Parallels doesn't have bugs like any other software, but because I'm pretty sure this isn't one. What I'm fairly sure is that Parallels Tools aren't correctly updated, my suggestion is for to uninstall them (add remove programs), reboot the VM and install them again.
 
Nope, that didn't work. Removed the Parallel Tools and they were re-installed when I restarted the VM.

I've been hesitant to call it a bug...but just look at all the activity you're getting around this issue. Also, Parallels has worked so flawlessly in the past, this is out of character for my experience with it. I don't care if it's a bug or not...just like to resolve it.

I've got no anti-virus (Symantec, Norton) on my Mac or VM.

Any other suggestions appreciated.
 
parbar, In order to isolate the issue, try the following steps:

If you had Norton installed on your VM at any point of time, there might be left over files which might be causing this issue. If you had norton at any point of time follow the steps below to download the norton removal tool and try:

Go to Virtual machine on the top mac menu bar/configure/Options/Security and Isolate Mac from Windows.

Restart Windows and try to download and install an application. If you are able to install it, it means that this is an issue with the sharing feature of parallel desktop. So Unisolate mac from windows and follow the steps mentioned in http://kb.parallels.com/8969 to uninstall PT completely and re-install .

If the solution does not work, try changing the networking mode from shared to Bridged or vice versa and try.
