external HD not recognized in win2000

I have the option set to "ask me what to do" when a USB device is detected. If the HD is plugged in while running MacOS and I turn on my virtual machine, parallels will not recognize it. (I am running win2000 pro). If I plug it in after win2000 is running, then it will ask me to allow it, I click yes, then it quickly tells me that I removed a device before it was properly put away. WTF? any thoughts?

Incidentally, I have tried to install new hardware, using the installation wizard and it detects nothing. I checked with Seagate website to see if "freeagent desktop" HD is compatible with win2000 pro, and it is. No drivers came with the product. I had no problem with Parallels recognizing it when I was running windows xp pro.

Hello dannybruno,

You should probably reinstall Parallels Tools or USB Controller.
Parrallels Tools can be reinstalled via "Actions" menu on Parallels Desktop.
To reinstall USB Controller you should:

1. In Windows guest OS go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "System" -> "Device Manager" and uninstall all devices under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" (right-click the devices).
2. Shut down your VM.
3. In VM Configuration Editor, delete the USB Controller and start Windows guest OS again.
4. Wait 5-10 minutes until Windows finishes the driver setup.
5. Shut down Windows.
6. Add "USB Controller" back to your VM configuration and start Windows again.

Could you let me know what PD build you use and your Mac model?

Best regards,
Xenos
