External Samsung SDD, but the Trim checkbox is not set

I use an external SSD hard drive from Samsung (T5 256GB) for the Virtual Machine (Windows 7). Under the Hardware / "Hard Disk" Settings, the "Enable Trim" checkbox is not set. If I set the hook, I get an indication that I do not use SDD. But i use an SDD hard disk. Can I put the hook without disadvantages?
