Failure to Install on new iMac

So far, I've made 8+ attempts to install Parallels 5 on my husband's new iMac: OS X.10.6, 3.06 HZ, 8 MB RAM, 500 GB HD with NO other software installed. I am not trying to install on a Boot Camp partition. On the first 5 attempts, I got a crashed thread error message immediately after Parallels went to the web to check for updates. The last 3 or so tries appeared to work, but when I clicked Restart, I got this message: "The installation failed. Parallels Desktop for Mac was not correctly installed." I clicked to "Show Error," but all I got was the same failure message so I don't know what's causing the failure. I have been running Parallels on my own computer since last November. Whereas I had problems loading the virtual machine into Parallels, at least I could install it, register it, and get help!

With no way to register a program which won't install, I can't get help on its installation - a catch 22 situation. I bought Parallels 5 in a boxed version, have the serial code, but am dead in the water. My husband is NOT happy with me. I have his Windows XP Pro machine ready to transfer into the iMac, but . . . . wait . . . . . no Parallels to hold/run it.

What else can I do?

Exact same situation here. Purchased Parallels 5 in a boxed version directly from the Apple store. Attempted to install on a new iMac, OS X.10.6. Apple firewall is off.

Every time get the error message: "Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac was not correctly installed."

Could it be that Parallels 5 is incompatible with iMac?

Sorry you've had a problem, too. First, you can call support prior to registration, but it's not easy. What I did was purchase paid support (which turned out to have been a smart move). He determined that the CD was corrupt! Yep, right out of the box. So, I downloaded a clean copy directly from Parallels and used the serial number from the corrupt CD to register. That worked and the really nice tech said he'd keep my ticket open just in case (a really, really good thing). Parallels loaded cleanly. But . . . . no way could I migrate the system. It just would NOT connect. I tried everything, finally calling back on the open ticket. Firstline tech tried for several hours and he couldn't load it. He downloaded a fresh copy of Transporter Agent to the PC, copied a new snapman.sys file to the registry, etc. Finally, he bumped me to Second Level. Here is where I had some problems. We sent a log of our attempts and the first tech wrote up a complete report, but evidently the first secondline tech to take the ticket didn't bother to read any of it. Instead, I got an email asking me two really dumb questions . . . . as in: did you turn on Transporter? I mean, really. I went ballistic. We'd explained we couldn't connect via USB which wouldn't have been a good way to migrate because, despite Device Manager saying I had 2.0 USB connection, all USB inputs were actually running 1.1 which would've taken over 7 hours. So . . we were going for an cabled ethernet network connection.

After sending a blizzard of emails and holding on the phone (after providing my open ticket number) for 2.5 hours with no result, I FINALLY reached a secondline support tech who set up a remote session for Wednesday (keep in mind I started all this last Friday). HE couldn't get it to connect either. We downloaded a second remote session connection to the PC. Still couldn't make it work. Finally, after running a series of ping tests and netstat tests, we realized what had happened. I had been sure I'd completely uninstalled ZoneAlarm (even though I'd gotten an odd error message), but, crafty program that it evidently is, it had refused to let go. Although no ZoneAlarm icon was in the PC's taskbar and we didn't see it in the startup file, it was there. We finally found it through the Windows security setting. I had to download another copy of ZoneAlarm, install it AND set the network connection to Trusted. After that, migration was a piece of cake. Parallels and the virtual machine is up and working perfectly. I spent half a day yesterday getting stuff verified and optimized for my husband.

Try downloading a clean copy, registering it, and then loading it.
