Faulting application 2XController.exe

Since we upgraded to version 10.5 (1327), we get this Application Error message in the event manager.

Faulting application 2XController.exe, version 10.5.1327.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.5069, fault address 0x000222d6.

This is the 2X Publishing Agent service that stops, and then restarts since it is set to do that in the recovery tab.

I can see in the log, that it can go hours wihtout happening , but it can also happen several times within a few minutes, down to only 10 seconds apart from two crashes?

Any reason why this is happening, and what can I do to stop it?
 
The DLL its faulting on is a native windows one.

There could be issues external to 2X I think. Any other apps which have been behaving erratically?
 
No other programs are acting up, but then again the gateway server is just doing this job, so it is not like we run any other programs on this server at a regular basis.

We have installed the most recent windows patches and rebooted the server, and it seems to be better just now.
