Fedora Core 5 hanging

I'm getting a number of hangs/freezes/loss of input when using RedHat Fedora Core 5.

The symptoms are complete lack of input and output. Clicking on the pane brings no response.

I have to then reboot Parallels. This normally takes two attempts.

This happens in both X and text mode in FC5.

My machine is a Dual Core Mini with 1GB Ram. It has a wireless connection to the Internet. I'm running a fully patched version of Mac OS X Tiger. I've had the same symptons with out of the box Parallels and with the updated version.

There are no messages in /var/log/messages in Fedora Core 5.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

I must say compared to my VMWare Server I'm running my mail server from, Parallels needs to get stability top of it's list. I've had memory problems as well and had to reinstall to get them solved. Any application that needs a reinstall to fix a run-time bug has some serious issues.

I'll give it a week more to see if I can get it solved otherwise it goes back in the box and back to Parallels for my money back.

I know it's not on topic with your concerns, but I've been trying to find a Fedora Core 5 disti that I can install in Parallels. All the downloads I've tried are pronounced corrupt by the Fedora installer. I've tried several mirrors, and both the CD and DVD ISOs. The CD set looks promising, because disk #1 passes the test, but disks 2, 3 and 5 are declared faulty, and the installation crashes if I ignore the error. Even disk#1 has to be run using text mode, the GUI mode crashes after formatting the disk :(

Please can you tell me where you found an installable copy? Then I might be able to see if I get the same problems as you at run time.

I used a Bittorrent so it came from anywhere (and everywhere).

Not sure which country you're in, but in the UK the distribution is on many cover CD's on magazines.

Downloaded it a number of times and never had any issues at all. Try a Bittorrent if thats what you used.

If you;re in the UK I'll burn you a copy of my disks if that helps.

Hmm! If it was that easy for you, I'm beginning to wonder if my Parallels Desktop is misbehaving. I *am* running it on a Mac Pro, hacked to legacy mode. Maybe this is a subtle side effect.

I am in the UK, but I won't bother you with it, I'll look for a cover disk.

One other question while I have your attention. I assume you had to choose a video driver during the installation? What did you select? I've had trouble with an old Red Hat 7 CD finding a driver option that will allow me to run XWindows at the end of the installation.

If you've hacked PD to run on a Mac Pro you're probably wasting your time. PD doesn't reliably run on an MP yet. I'd just wait until they release a real patch for the MP, any hacks are more than likely going to be flaky and you are probably wasting your time trying to get anything running reliably.
Like most have said there aren't many problems running FC5 under PD on supported hardware. I know you're anxious to utilize your new MP but frankly it just isn't supported yet.
I know this doesn't help but I don't think you're going to find any help in here when most MP users are just siting back and waiting for a patched release.

Also it isn't helping the original poster at all to hijack his question.

Ok, this is going to sound strange, but when you start up parallels and are at the guest setup, delete the sound option and give it a try.
