I invested in Parallels to run windows xp to run Nikonscan software which is not being updated for mac os. Then I discovered Parallels does not support firewire. Since pc's can run firewire, Parallels must run firewire to be functional in my video and photography world. when will this be added?

I AGREE!!! I was hoping to see FireWire support in the new Desktop 6.0... nope! When they add it...I'm in !

Ditto. I cannot use my WD External Firewire disk under parallels. I am out of USB ports on my iMac.

Like Marten B, I invested in Parallels so I could run Nikon Scan on a virtual XP instance with my firewire attached Nikon slide scanner only to be disappointed to find out Parallels doesn't support firewire - back to square one!

No, only USB devices can be directly connected in Parallels 7.
