flash drive program erased

I have run a test scoring program (I'm a psychologist) from a flash drive in USB slot under Parallels for a year or more with Mac OS 10.4.11. I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.6. I did an "erase and install" that went fine, then reinstalled my software, including Paralells 3.0 build 5636. When I ran my test-scoring program, it started fine from the flash drive, then I got a number of errors: access violation, exception invalid pointer, unable to write to the .ini file. The program hung, and I had to restart the system. When I tried to run it next, I got the message, "the program could not be opened (code = 2). I checked on the flash drive, and much of the contents, including the software itself, had apparently been erased.

I don't know what to make of this. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

It looks like the contents of the flash drive were erased during your Mac OS X reinstall, this is not a Parallels Desktop issue.

That couldn't be the issue. I didn't use the flash drive while upgrading. I used it well after upgrading Parallels and after having installed other windows programs. I have replaced the software on the flash drive, and I very much need to know what could have gone wrong before I try to use it again in Parallels. Again, the same software worked well under Parallels with Mac OS 10.4.11. What could cause the USB to malfunction like that?

Was the flash drive connected to the virtual machine as a USB device, or as a Shared Folder through the Mac side?

Thanks for your question. It was connected to the virtual machine as a USB device. The setting for USB was "enabled" and "connect to guest OS."

Just to check: please make sure, that it is not set up as a Shared Folder, but connecte to the virtual machine via Devices -> USB

Under Share Windows folders to Mac, I have checked "all windows disks" and nothing else. Under "Share Mac folders to Windows, I have checked only "home folder." There are no user-defined folders. "Map folders to drive letters" is also checked. I don't remember doing that, so perhaps it's the default.

Under "Devices" if I show the USB options, I don't use any of those things, like IR receiver, isight, etc.
