FreeBSD 13.4 - Appears to work in App Store Edition - Apple Silicon

FYI while FreeBSD 13.4 is not "officially" supported or listed in Guest edition for Parallels, Silicon - https://kb.parallels.com/en/124223

It appears to install with no issues (at least I have yet to find any).

Note: Parallels guest tools will not install (at least natively)

Just FYI

Parallels team - please review documentation and with engineering for listing FreeBSD 13.4 for potential support in Apple M-Series section for App Store edition.

Note: FreeBSD 14.x and higher does not work out of the box. Due to a new virtio_gpu added in FreeBSD - https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi...opos=0&manpath=FreeBSD+14.0-RELEASE+and+Ports
The VM gets stuck on boot as a result of this driver

 

To clarify FreeBSD 13.4 - arm64 - aarch64 version works for Apple M2 when tested on my device: (using Parallels App Store edition)

Parallels team feel free to add the FreeBSD section in free OS if possible too to include this - otherwise custom OS will work there

 

Actually I was able to get FreeBSD 14+ working in Parallels with Apple M2 as well using the setup above

The fix was using the Parallels Video over VirtIO GPU video adapter

Fix:
--Create Parallels VM (choose Other Linux, and select image - FreeBSD-14.2-RELEASE-arm64-aarch64-bootonly.iso)
--Adjust settings as you please
--shutdown the VM, right-click the VM and click Show in Finder, and right-click the VM file, and click Show Package Contents
--edit the config.pvs using any text editor

Search for "VideoMemorySize" and then above it you will see the line "<Type>1</Type>, change this to <Type>0</Type> and then save the file and start the VM

FreeBSD should now run properly.

Feel free to add support for FreeBSD 14 in Apple Silicon as well after review from the engineering side too - its working great
