Hdd file not recognized

I tried to move my VM from one computer to another by copying the parallels folder. When I launch the VM on the new comp an error message pops and says the Hdd file is not usable, but I can still edit it before launching.

I use 10.4.11Intel, parallels 2.5 build 3XXX (dont remember exactly). Do I need to copy another file than the parallels folder to make it work ?

To be more precise, it's build 3224 and the exact wording from the error message is :

hdd file "seems to be not a regular file and cannot be used as a hard disk image."

I'd be thankful if someone could help on that one.
 
Hello,

please open Parallels Image Tool. There you should select your .hdd file and try to convert your hard disk image to the old format. Will it help?

Unfortunately not. P-Tools cannot perform any operation on this .hdd file because it "is not valid as it refers to the existing folder object.". An error message that I dont exactly understand.

Anyway, I suppose that my installing of the build 7854 modified in some way the .hdd file and that it's not readable anymore by older parallels builds. Is it possible ? and if so, do you know what to modify to make this .hdd file a "regular file" again ?
 
Please try to do the following:
1. Make a backup copy of the Virtual machine before the steps below.
2. Open .HDD package and move the .HDS file to the MAC Desktop.
3. Change the name of the .HDS file to the .HDD file.

Great idea ! It works ! :)

But... I cannot move the mouse inside the VM. I tried the usual ways. Should I recreate a new VM using that working hdd file ?
 
OK it didn't really work, but I could short-circuit the problem by installing Parallels 3 and then the hdd file was readable and perfectly running.
