HELP! I have 4 licenses.. and am confused....

Hi.

According to this page (https://www.parallels.com/account/products), I have four licenses of Parallels: PD 4, 5, 6, and 7.

PD4 = permanent.
PD5 = permanent.
PD6 = upgrade.
PD7 = upgrade.

Problem is.... I don't remember which license I used to upgrade to version 6 (and 7.)

One thing I remember is, I went to 7 from 6, last year. (through some kind of upgrade protection program..)

So, apparently there are 2 possible ways.


1) PD4 -> upgrade -> PD6 -> upgrade -> PD7
2) PD5 -> upgrade -> PD6 -> upgrade -> PD7

This is important because I recently purchased a secondary Mac, and since EULA does not allow me to install PD7 on two Macs, I need to purchase another copy of 7.

if 1) is the case, the license of PD5 is alive so I can get second copy of PD7 for an upgrade fee, $49.

But, if 2) is the case, I need to buy PD7 for a full price of $79 because I cannot upgrade to 7 from version 4.

So, could you let me know which license is still alive?

If you installed, all on the same mac, first PD4 then 5, then 6, then 7, it is obvious that when you upgraded to 6 the license that was in use before was 5 and not 4.

No. Each of PD 4 and 5 is a retail version, not an upgrade version.

And their is a possible scenario that I could have submitted PD4 serial number, instead of 5, when I upgraded to version 6.

When upgrade, Parallels does not automatically load serial number of currently installed version. Instead, they ask user to type old version serial number manually. And it is possible to input PD 4 serial number, even if PD 5 is installed on system.
 
You think it's likely you used the PD4 key? I know you would like to have had that foresight, but you really think that's likely?

The licenses are stored in /Library/Preferences/Parallels/licenses.xml (the Library at the root of your system not your user Library).
You might try looking in there for clues (careful with that file, don't edit it, copy it elsewhere and open the copy).
If that doesn't solve it, create a support ticket.

You can also just choose from the activation menu to reactivate your PD7 and use the upgrade key and key in your PD7 upgrade key + your PD5 permanent key.

On the other computer install PD6 (latest version) and use upgrade key + PD4 key. Now you only need a PD7 upgrade key. :)

(you got a similar answer in another thread, but I would like just make sure that you can change the activation keys of an already active installation)

I was confused regarding PD licenses in the first place, because almost every time I upgraded PD, I formatted hard drive and re-installed OS, and other apps, from scratch. Weird huh? :)

BTW, is it possible to upgrade, from an upgrade license, for instance, PD4(retail) -> PD6(upgrade) ->PD7(upgrade)?
