HELP - Need Old Parallels files

I work at a University Lab. We used an older version of Parallels on our Leopard MacBooks. We recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. Parallels disappeared and we are not planning to update. Is there any way to retrieve the files stored on the older parallels VM disk? The Parallels explorer sees the disk but will not access the files.

We have some important files on the disk that we thought we'd be able to access. Our backups seem to have stored them in the same format as Parallels.
 
Try to right-click on PVM file (Documents/Parallels) > Open with > Parallels Mounter. It's supposed to mount your virtual HD to the Mac desktop, but I'm not sure if it does it in your case, since your version of Parallels Desktop isn't compatible with Lion.
 
Use the trial of PDM8. And if you like it you might even buy it!
 
Open With Parallels Mounter:

Parallels Mounter is unable to open the file.
The hard disk has no volumes, or its file system is not supported.
Choose another file.

Would the trial Parallels run my old Windows XP PVM?

I was able to install Parallels 8 Desktop for Mac and access all the data on the old virtual hard drive. Thanks. I definitely will consider a purchase, but this isn't my computer so I'll need to be able to take it with me to my next computer. Is this possible?

Thanks for all your help. Wondering if I will get the update price, or have to purchase new.
