Help! Parallels Desktop failed to launch after a OSX crash

Hi, Guys!

I have got a really scary problem here. I was using parallels desktop 1922 running windows xp for quite a while, and everything's fine. However, the electricity shut down in my flat last night while my parallels desktop was still running on my Mac. Once I got the electricity back, and switched on my mac, the parallels desktop just failed to launch. Basically everytime I tried to run the program, it quit with an unexpected error.

I have tried to completely remove parallels desktop and reinstall it for several times, it just does not do any good at all! I would really appreciate any solutions.

My system configuration is

iMac Intel 1.83 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM (512MB allocated to Parallels Desktop), Mac OSX 10.4.8

Do you have it set to autoload a particular VM? If so you might try moving the VM so it fails to load on launch. It could be that your VM is corrupted.

And when you finally get it working (or before) you might consider getting a UPS. I wouldn't dream of running a computer without backup power. Even the external disks I use on my laptop are connected to a UPS, although the laptop battery serves the purpose for the computer.

And don't forget to put your cable or DSL modem and your router on a UPS as well.

Oh, and be sure to back up your VM now and then.

FWIW, I don't use autolaunch, for just the reason you are encountering.

Thanks for the advice! I think I have already deleted the VM and everything that is associated with Parallels Desktop. It still won't start up after reinstallation! Is there anything else that you could think of? Thanks!

The uninstall doesn't delete everything, but this is usually not a problem. Of course, you have restarted your Mac after reinstalling Parallels, since that is required to start the kernel extensions.

You might try deleting caches (I use Onyx) and rebooting to see if that helps. Failing that, removing ALL of parallels before the reinstall may help. Use the uninstall, and then spotlight parallel and prl and delete or move whatever you find, reboot, install, reboot, and try it.

If all that fails, you probably have a corrupt copy of OSX so you may have to reinstall the OS.

Not fun! I've been there. Backups in depth are my current strategy.
