Hide Menu Icons in Version 5

Hi!
Am I the only one that preferred the old way of switching of Hide Menu Icons?
It was great to access these icons as a VERTICAL flip (for small screens like a 13" Macbook Pro). The way it is now (hidden icons appearing on the LEFT) is of no use for a small screen, as too 'crowded' menu bar of apps defeat the purpose of revealing hidden icons.
Could you consider to bring back the old way as an option? Or is it just not possible anymore due to Big Sur limitations? (I'm still on Mojave, so I don't know).

You are not the only one that prefers the previous version of the hide menu icons feature. But, unfortunately, the new version is awful. I also work on a laptop, and the latest version does not work.
