How can I get .doc files to default to opening in Windows VM instead of in TextEdit?

I have two similar questions, both dealing with the Mac's defaulting to TextEdit when I would like MS Word to open instead:

1. How can I double-click on a .doc file in the Mac Finder and have it open in Word (in the Windows VM) instead of in TextEdit?

2. If I'm in a browser (e.g., Firefox) on the Mac and receive an email attachment that is a .doc file, how can I get that attachment to open in Word in the VM (again, instead of in TextEdit)?

Please perform these steps to get the file associations correct in Mac as well as Windows:

1. Right click on the .doc file which is in Mac and then choose Get info.
2. Then choose 'Open With' option and then choose 'Microsoft Word' as the default application and click 'Change all'.
3. This will then answer your both questions.

Thanks. That does seem to work for opening a document in Word (in the VM) from the Finder. However, the option to select a 'default' application (including 'Change all') from "Get Info" did not seem to work as you described. The version of Word that was displayed had an .app extension, which would, I believe, mean it was the Mac version (i.e., the Office 2004 for Mac demo version on my computer). When I tried to navigate through the directory tree, including through the VM, I couldn't locate the WIN version of Word to select it (as a default application).

When selecting a .doc attachment to an email, while I do see an option for selecting a 'default application,' I don't see the VM version of Word as an option. The window that opens is a standard Finder window and contains only Mac applications. Others are greyed-out (i.e., not selectable).
