I just installed a new Windows 10 Home VM. I'm not trying to install Office, and it downloads the installation .exe correctly, but when it launches it tries to run the exe with a Mac app (see image). Why does it do that and how do I get it to run my Windows exe correctly? Thanks.
Hi James, It seems like something's wrong with fils associations. Frankly speaking it's not a unique Windows issue even for real PCs, so, most likely it has nothing to do with Parallels in general. Nevertheless, there are plenty of articles on the net regarding this issue, e.g.: https://www.wikihow.com/Open-EXE-Files https://www.askvg.com/solution-exe-files-always-open-with-notepad-or-other-applications/ But before that create a snapshot and try doing the following: 1. While in Windows, hold CMD key on your keyboard and press the R key to open a Run dialog box. 2. Open Command Prompt by typing cmd in the dialog box. 3. Type the following command in Command Prompt and hit return/Enter key: assoc .exe=exefile
Hi Michael, Thanks for your reply. I figured out after I wrote this that the problem only occurs if I click in the Downloads pane of Edge. If I click in File Explorer then it works fine.
It seems to only happen when I download something on Edge. No problem with Chrome or Brave browsers. FYI, I used all the defaults to install the Windows 10 VM on my Mac.
