I am setting up what will be a large VM (~1TB) once all data is synced. I am running Parallels 19 on a 2018 Mac mini with a 256GB internal SSD. I have a 2TB SSD external connected via USB-C (3.1 I believe). My preference would be to install the Ubuntu VM on the internal drive, but add access to the external drive as a place to store the synced data. My first attempt at this was the setup Ubuntu Desktop on the internal drive, and then under preferences/devices/permanent assignments just add the external drive to connect to my VM. While this seems to work, after about 30min after data syncing begins I'm starting to see the VM itself on my internal drive swell to north of 20GB even though the data is being sent to the External. What is best practice in my scenario where I wish to run the VM on the internal for best performance, but send all the data to the external to preserve space on my internal?
