How to DELETE a drive in Windows

Hello

in v3.x I needed more room and ended up making an extra drive (drive E) -

Have just gone to v4.

now I want to expand and using the partition program - it has a check box that 'adds to the last drive' ...so I have Drive C still at 8 gig and have taken drive E from 32g to 40 g. My problem is the C drive is FULL -- how do I expand that drive and not the unnecessary drive E that should be deleted??

If the data on a drive E is not important then you can simply delete this drive from the Windows interface (right-click on My computer, select "manage", then select Disk Management, right-click on drive E and select "Delete partition"). This will turn the drive into unallocated space, and then you would be able to use Parallels Image Tool to add this unallocated space to drive C.
However, do not forget to backup the virtual machine before implementing any of the above. The VM is located by default in /Users/<username>/Documents/Parallels/<VM_name>, this is a .pvm file.
And if the data on E is important then you would have to back it up first (depending on what is there you might simply copy the data to the Mac side, i.e. if there is no applications installed).

The drive is dead thanks for the tip

.. but somewhat confused on the Parallel Tool and it's ability to add the space to C drive--I ran - it wants to EXPAND ..so I bumped it just a bit -- ran - but C drive still the same size - Have done this twice ...from 40g to 42g and and again to 43 gig.

Tried to shrink to used space but cancelled a few minutes into this operations ... wat part am I missing?

When you right-click on My computer and select "Manage", then "Disk management" what do you see there? I would suppose that there would be a C: drive of the same size and the rest is unallocated space.
Now, if you shut down VM, go to Parallels Image Tool and increase the disk space, as far as I know there is no even need to increase the capacity, could be left the same. All that is important is that option "Add the unallocated space to the last volume" is checked. If C: is the only volume - it should be increased.

You have to increase the size- it will not allow you to run it at same size - a window pops up and says so ... so I have yet again run this program and have increased the VM to 43 gig ( up from 42 ) and still only have 8 gig on my C drive ...

HELP ????

Greg, do you see an option "Add the unallocated space to the last volume"? The feature was not implemented in Parallels 3.0, so if the Image Tool is of an old version then you would not be able to add the unallocated space to the C: drive.

If that is not the case, and if you see the unallocated space as I have described in the previous reply, then you can try compacting the virtual machine first:

Hello BOTH options (trim unused space & merge snapshots) are greyed out and unavailable ...??

I looked up the Parallels Tool pdf --it is not very helpful to describe what a SNAPSHOT really is ...

It is looking like I am better off trashing and re-installing - any last chance fixes ?

To do this first you click on the drive that you wish to remove the logical component, then right click on it. There should be a logical drive message 'delete logical drive'. BE WARNED, IN DOING SO YOU WILL LOOSE ALL DATA SO HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO THE HDD!!!

In other words, you will be formatting the HDD which you can't if it is THE master HDD running your computer. You can only do this on anothr computer with your HDD of the first computer. There is no other way you can go about it, from experience.
