How-to fix fullscreen apps showing dashboard

I've had an annoying issue where full-screen apps (e.g. pressing F5 in powerpoint) show the Mac Dashboard for no reason and then close it again.
I've updated to Windows 8 and now most apps in Coherence (reader, messages etc.) show as fullscreen.

I've noticed that if you go to Settings->Mission Control and untick 'Show Dashboard as a space' this issue goes away.

Yeah that didn't work, it still does it. Pretty annoying too.

Has anyone else managed to fix this? If I put Parallels in Non-Coherence and run as full screen I don't get any issues but in coherence it still has problems and shows the dashboard in the background, takes the VM off focus and disallows me from giving presentations.
