How to import existing Win2000 partition into Parallels?

Hi,

I've googled quite a bit and searched this forum but didn't find helpful info.

I want to get my Win2000 installation from my old notebook running in Parallels. I put the old notebook's hard disk into an external drive enclosure and tried in several ways to create an image of it to use in Parallels:
  • - create .dmg with Disk Utility and rename to .hdd
  • - convert .dmg to CD/DVD Master using Disk Utility and rename output .cdr to .hdd
  • - unmount usb partition, create disk image using dd and rename .iso output file to .hdd
  • - failed converting .dmg into .iso using "hdiutil makehybrid" (froze at high CPU load and 0byte output file)

That should be about it, and all did not work: When I start up my VM, it gets stuck at "Boot from hard drive..." (with high CPU load).

Did I forget about something? Am I trying the wrong image formats? Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi,

Only easy solution I know. Do a full backup of your win2000 installation. Install plain win 2000 in Parallel. Then restore your win 2000 backup into your parallel session. Wipe every device in the win 2000 device manager parallel session and force a rediscovery of your hardware.

That's what I used to do with vmware, it should work with parallel.
