How to reduce CPU usage?

It's now at the point were I can barely use OS X while Parallels is running. Just trying to type in Safari's address bar takes more than a few seconds while Parallels is eating up over 150% of my CPU.

Are there any changes I can make to Parallels to speed it up and run like a champ along with OS X?

Parallels version 9.0.24237.1028877
OS X 10.9.4
Windows 8.1

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro
2.66 Ghz Core i7
8GB 1067 DDR3 RAM
