How to run PC games on MacBook Pro using Parallels?

In a previous posting, I posed a virtual machine problem -- that is, a PC-based game will not run in the XP virtual machine on my MacBook Pro, despite this being the sole installation. Savvy users of this bulletin board might have some educated guesses about how to run the PC game on the XP virtual machine. Game developer says the software can only run native on XP. Isn't that the point of something like Parallels? Has someone figured this out?
 
Parallels emulates all the hardware, there is only 8meg video ram, and no 3D acceleration, so games are a no go at the moment, this may change in the future.
 
There was some work being done with software 3d-renderers, but the experience was very hit-and-miss. When I was testing it, I accidently discovered that the old game Homeworld actually has a software 3d renderer built-in. The game played rather smoothly, but there was some odd control issues. I really haven't had a chance to investigate very well. Still, I was quite surprised that the software renderer was as fast as it was on emulated hardware.

The recent announcement about 3d games support in future Parallels products is pretty exciting, as it would be an important feature that no other product has. Hopefully, we'll see some progress on this technology soon.
