I cant get past the log in page xp (tools problem)

I get past the initial boot (black with windows xp) page. I then need to click on my user name but when i do the mouse disapears and doesnt seem to click the user name. Therefore it wont bot into windows.

I am using version 3.0 on a macbook pro.

It has been working perfectly but i think tools have become uninstalled and i cant install them.

Any help greatly appreciated.
 
Can you boot into safe mode (pressing F8, or Fn+F8 if this is a MacBook during when the virtual machine just starts)?

If you would not be able to operate mouse that way as well, and if you can not start using the keyboard only (i.e. using the 'Tab' and 'Enter' keys) then I would suggest to back up your Virtual machine first, to do that, copy the virtual machine hard disk image file to some other place. By default VM hard disk is located under /Users/<username>/Documents/Parallels/<VM_name>/winxp.hdd.
After sucessfully backing up your virtual machine, try the Windows repair: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5138
 
When i try to boot in safe mode i get once again to the Admin and my user name page but cant click on it to open.

I have installed a new copy of XP which runs great BUT of course my files and programmes are sitting on the old xp. Can i just drag the .hdd file from my old xp containing my data in my paralles folder on my mac to the new xp folder in parallels on my mac?

You can attach (and remove by the way) an old hard disk by doing the following:

1. Navigate to Parallels menu -> Configure and press the "+" button. The virtual machine has to be stopped at that moment otherwise button would be grayed out.
2. Add a new hard disk and specify the way to an old .pvm bundle (and .hdd inside)

After that, when you launch the virtual machine you would see two local disks, C: and D: for example. And data can be easily transferred. All the programs has to be reinstalled however.
