I keep getting "No Bootable Device is Avaliable" when trying to install Win7

I have Parallel Desktop 5 for Mac and am trying to install Win7 on it, but I keep getting no bootable device is available. I submitted a report already and the ID is 6270160. I would really want to install Windows on my macbook if possible.

Your going to have to supply a lot more information than "...keep getting no bootable device is available"

Like what was the source of the installation? Import? Import from another vm (vhdd)? What vm? Import from another machine using Transporter? Installation cd? ISO image? Image other than ISO? Any "unusual" messages when the vm was being created? (Anything that might give a clue as to why the vm doesn't have a boot device).

Whats the specs of your mac book? Memory? Intel or Power chip? (Just the manufacture year of the macbook would give a clue as to the kind of chip you should have)

BTW I had this happen when I tried to import a WinPC vm. If this is what you are trying to do, you need to have an understanding of how the WinPC vm is configured to insure you get all the relevant vhdds. (ie the one containing the mbr.)

Now go do your home work and try again.
 
The source of my installation was from the Windows 7 Professional DVD that I have. I've also tried to install from an image that I created from that installation disc but I still get no bootable device.

My current Macbook has Snow Leopard, 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 Gig ram. Its the Macbook unibody before the most recent release (I got it in January 2010). The current HD is 250 GB I believe and I am not using bootcamp.

Also parallels tools is not installed because it wouldn't install. I choose to install it but nothing ever happens. I am using the most current build of Parallels 5 since I updated it a couple days ago. I still got no bootable device when it was a previous build for 5 as well.

Not only didn't Win 7's installation disc not work, I've also tried my Win XP and I got the same result.
 
Same problem, no matter the disk or image I use (XP or W7). Multiple clean installs and new VM's to no avail. Any help from Parallels crew would be appreciated.
 
Your VM should have a CD/DVD device and it should be connected to a real CD/DVD drive or to an .iso image file. Your VM should also have CD/DVD first in the Boot Order. Check the configuration settings. Virtual Machine -> Configure -> Hardware.

Thanks for the fast reply. I've tried pretty much every configuration known to mankind without success. Have done iso version as well. Was contemplating trying to do a boot from thumb drive, if that is even possible.
 
Can you boot your Mac with the CD/DVD? If you can do that then you can install using Boot Camp then point Parallels at that.
