Installed Parallels on Mac - Windows not operating

I am totally lost - Please help if you can - I have installed Parallels on imac - When I run windows it says it is Preparing to configure the virtual machine -
A DOS screen then appears showing:
Parallels(R) VGA-Compatible BIOS Version 3.0.2111.89721

All rights reserved.
6144 MB physical memory installed
Network bottom is installed.
Trying to boot from SATA drive 1...

And there it sits forever! What am I doing wrong??

What I have copied out is exactly what the Windows DOS screen says - there is no error message as such - the window just stays locked up (as my original message).
The windows OS was downloaded from my laptop.
Currently I seem have wasted my money on the software - can someone please help.
