Installing a Windows program on my virtual Windows

iMac OS: Mountain Lion
Parallels Desktop 9, 14 day trial version
Windows 8

I did not go the Boot Camp route.

Everything went well. Until...

I need to install windows software. This particular program is called Monogram Wizard. I can get to the DVD from the Windows App with no difficulty. I can execute the install application. But it always terminates with an error about being unable to access the registry.
 
New to Windows 8. I can't find users like I can on Windows 7 and previous versions. Truth be told, I can't even find COntrol Panel. I'll keep plodding away.
