Installing Parallels Tools has broken Ubuntu

I've just installed Parallels Tools for Parallels Desktop for Mac 6.0.12094 on OS X 10.7.2, and it seems to have broken Ubuntu. I've attached a screenshot.

What's the best way to approach fixing this?

Hi Jim.

It seems to be working in general. This Black hole i assume is just incorrectly installed video driver (i don't really think it affects general performance somehow) All you need is to reinstall Parallels Tools.

Thanks, YanaYana. Yes, it is working in general. I'm trying to reinstall Parallels Tools but I can't get the terminal to launch: the menu bar is missing from the top of the screen and I can't find the drop-down that contains Terminal by working blind.

I've also tried Alt+F2, and this isn't launching Terminal either. The function keys are working - F1 launches Ubuntu help - and pressing Alt+F2 sometimes makes the "black hole" change colour from black to green, or vice versa.

I haven't got any data associated with this Ubuntu installation so I'm okay with deleting it and starting from scratch, if that's easier?

I've now tried re-installing Ubuntu from scratch, but the first screen that I'm presented with when the machine boots is the same as the one in the screenshot above, so I guess I still need to find a way of launching a terminal window.

Google is my friend ... Ctrl + Alt + T launches a terminal window. I had to reinstall Parallels Tools a few times, and update Parallels itself, but the virtual machine is now back up and running

I'm glad it helped. actually different issues may be caused by the incorrect installation of Parallels Tools - tool itself is a branch of drivers, so the easier solution is just to reinstall them
