Internet Explorer and Safari

This is not a Parallels problem, but I'm hoping someone can help.

Using Safari on my new Mac mini I invariably get a Page Not Found error whern clicking a link in Mail or Thunderbird

But using IE on Windows 7 I can paste the address from Mac to Windows and connect immediately.

What the heck is going on?

I'm going nuts.

I'm tempted to Bootcamp into Windows and forget the Mac! And run Parallels on Windows?
 
maybe there is something wrong with the network connection on your Mac? can you open the link if Windows is not running? anyway it sounds more like Apple issue - Parallels here works fine as i understand
 
It sounds to me like either 1) what YanaYana said. and there's a network or Safari configuration problem on your Mac side, or 2) Mail or Thunderbird are passing a malformed URL to Safari.

#2 is easy to check -- click a URL in Mail or Thunderbird, then check the URL bar in Safari to see if it looks at all funny.

When you say "I can paste the address from Mac to Windows and connect immediately", are you copying from Mail or Thunderbird, or are you copying from the URL bar in Safari after Safari fails to load the page?

I was copying from the URL bar in Safari after Safari fails to load the page.

The problem has vanished for the moment.

But it was happening whether Parallels was running or not.

I am not alone. Found these tips on the Apple forum:

1: Under System Preferences>Network, I clicked Advanced...then clicked the TCP/IP tab.* Then I clicked, "Renew DHCP Lease." That did the trick for me.

2: Turn off your modem/router.

Turn off your airport wireless connection.

Drag the System Configuration file to the trash (Hard drive > Library > Preferences > at the bottom)

Shut down your computer
*
After about 3 minutes or so, turn on your modem until it's powered up fully.

On your computer, (do this quickly) hold down Command + Control + R and turn on your computer and immediately start holding down P in addition until you hear a second start up sound, and then let go. It should work perfectly after this!
 
Correction to my earlier response:

It happened on Firefox and Safari when Parallels was running!

Shut down Parallels and the site came right up.
