IPX and Parallels

Hi all -
I am attempting to get my Windows 98 Parallels install to see the IPX machines on the network here at my work. Basically, TCP/IP works fine, but I can't get IPX to work through the 98 machine, even though it is configured correctly. I am using a bridged ethernet connection, and I thought that would give me more of a direct link from the 98 VM to the network, but I am still having troubles. On a real 98 machine all I have to do is install the IPX protocols and everything works with our software, however I just can't get this VM to see the network. Any ideas?

Yes,

Make sure you use bridged networking.

Bridged doesn't work

I have been using bridged networking since the beginning, in addition to trying the other options, but nothing works. I have turned off the firewall on the OSX side, and tried to open everything as much as possible to see what could be causing the lack of communication, and I can't get anything to respond correctly. Does anyone know what IPX would not be able to pass through?

Are you using NetWare? If Yes, try to do an ipxping to the address of your virtual machine.

If it is a netware, you might look into setting up also the TCP/IP stack on the NetWare server to be able to connect in TCP/IP mode from the virtual machine and use the server as a bridge router.

So, I am asking newbie questions now, but I don't really know how to ipxping my machine, and I installed netware, but don't really understand it. Is netware supposed to be installed in the virtual machine or my OSX machine? Thanks for your tips so far fbronner, I really appreciate it.

Hi,

Ok, What kind of machine or application are you using which needs an ipx network? Knowing what you are using it for might help.

Usually IPX was seen on networks which were based on NetWare 2.x and sometiems still around for a NetWare 3.x network (right now we are up to NetWare 6.x).

I had hopes you had an old NetWare server which was still being used. The ipxping command came with those NetWare server and was accessible from the server console to test the connectivity and routing to a server/workstation.

So if you can tell us how you are using ipx, maybe, I can find some way to help.
