Issue installing xubuntu 8.04.1 or ubuntulite

Hi,

I just upgraded to Parallels Desktop 3.0 (OSX) and tried to install xubuntu 8.04.1. CD boots with default settings in Parallels for Ubuntu, but after language selection, as soon as I select "install" or any other option, the kernel loads, then I get some red vertical lines on the screen and the VM goes back to the Stopped condition. I tried all possible settings for acpi=off, noapic, nolapic etc.
Same happens upon booting with the ubuntulite iso image.

Anyone out there having similar issues or a solution?

Hm, very strange problem, usually something like this on Windows version of Parallels Workstation, when DEP is on, but on Mac OS - could you try to use ISO image installation?
 
another attempt

I tried to install both xubuntu 8.04.1 and ubuntulite as well from iso image and gave ubuntu 8.04.1 a try as well with the same result. I then tried the hard way, installed xubuntu 7.04, upgraded to 7.10 and then upgraded to 8.04. It seems that the issue starts with kernel 2.6.24-21 which comes with 8.04(.1) versions of ubuntu and xubuntu, the issue occurred again after the last upgrade. Via boot menu I was able to boot up with the previous kernel 2.6.22-15. The OS was not really usable with this, but at least it booted up.

Hi John, thanks for the link, I was actually using build 5608, this was the link I received with my update and even the update option in the help menu said I was up-to-date. Anyway, I quickly downloaded 5624, but it showed the same behavior. I tried as well some of the different settings under Options->Advanced for the Emulation Flags without success, this usually helped when trying other OS like ReactOS or minix, but without positive effects for (x)ubuntu 8.04.1.

small update: I tried the 2.6.24-21-virtual kernel and 2.6.24-20-virtual kernel, but beside the fact that the vertical lines are either white (24-21) or different colors (24-20) nothing changed.
 
the xubuntu distribution has kernels available for use with virtual hardware, but it seems since the kernel version itself is the same, it has the same issue. I meanwhile installed vectorlinux lite on another harddisk image and use a version of the 2.6.22 kernel there. will wait with xubuntu for next kernel update, maybe it will be working then. it is strange anyway, I guess there are other parallels users out there running (x)ubuntu 8.04.1 with kernel 2.6.24-21?
