Java Client - clientless

Hi

I have just looked at the new java beta version which is looking good since my last look at it when it first came out.

The major drawback is that it still requires a client to be installed.

Is there no way you can create this as clientless version as would be so beneficial, using a client requires upgrades each time we get a new version of the server. It also limits the use aswell as in many instances we cannot install the client.

I am happy to loose a little bit of functionality such as SSO.

Could you let me know if this is in the roadmap.

Could you give me an indication of when it is likely to be released.

Also have you a beta version that i could have to see progress so far?

We do not have one yet but have one with limited features in the pipeline,
no dates defined since the demand is too little.

Also the native code is way faster for rendering displays, so is much less resource hungry.
From Java code you cannot automatically gain access smartcards and extend HW support.
These features in Java require API and or extensions installations far more difficult than
the client out-weighing the advantage.

All installation issues and pre-copnfigurations are usually handled by modifying the msi using orca
and push it through the webportal or on a domain the GPO.
 
I'd like to add my own voice of support for this install-less client. In fact, without this feature, I'm not sure we'll be able to purchase the software. We've been trialling it for a couple of months now for the purpose of demonstrating our software on the road, and allowing potential customers to evaluate our software remotely.

If the 2X client is installed, it meets our needs perfectly. Our salesforce is able to demonstrate our software from around the world. Unfortunately, we are finding that many of our potential customers are unable to install any software on their PCs, and so cannot launch the 2X evaluation. Also, if our salespeople need to demonstrate the software from the customer's premises, they typically cannot attach to their network and so would like to demonstrate using the customer's own computer. The installation requirement of 2X eliminates this possibility.

For those cases when my salespeople have reliable connections to the internet from their laptop, the 2X client is great. For all other cases, however, the Java client would be required. I don't care about resource hungriness, smartcards, extended hardware support, etc. The install-less client is far more important for this use case, even with all of the disadvantages you've listed.
 
This is a good start, but I need the client to be even thinner. Zero installation, pre-configured, near-silent (no wizard), web-driven, dead simple. Maybe a dialog box confirming that they should give permission to run something, but that's it.

I'll play around with this one and see how far I can get it. Any tips?
