I have the same message. Clicking the link to 'install anyway' the program loads, but won't connect to the Internet. I am connected on the Mac OS X 10.5.7 side of the machine as I'm writing this in Safari from the same laptop. I also updated Parallels last week with the latest Build 4.0.3844 (May 5, 2009). So far that is all I see not working, but it's only been a few minutes of fussing with it.
I hope Parallels support gets a fix to us soon.

Same Issue with me
I had a good upgrade to Parallels Build 3844 from a few days ago. Last night I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.7 and that install went fine. When I opened Parallels I got the 'missing kernel component error message as well. It's the first time I've seen it compared to other posts in another string that the error message started right after upgrading to 3844. I clicked to 'open anyway' and Parallels opened and all appears normal EXCEPT the VM won't connect to the Internet. When I open Firefox or IE, I get an error message that neither home page can be found.
Following comments in the other string, I downloaded a fresh version of 3844 DMG and uninstalled the version I have. I reinstalled 3844 and did NOT create a new VM, but opened the Windows XP PMV file per directions from Parallels Support that responded to post. Parallels began and I got the same error message about the missing kernel component message. I opened anyway and still didn't connect to the Internet. I 'reinstalled Parallels Tools' and after the reboot, still have the same problem with the missing kernel message.
So, I don't know what else to do and request your help and insights.

Did you do what's suggested? Restart and, if it presists, reinstall?
Having the same issue. I have lost my network connection (using shared). It shows I have local only. I can't access anything via network (Internet, local shares, database server, etc.)
Here's my info:
1. Mac OS Version - 10.5.7
2. Parallels Build # 4.0.3844
3. What kind of computer Mac Book Pro Unibody 2.53GHz C2D
4. Total Physical RAM 4GB
5. Hard Drives 1 - 320gb
6. If you are using a BootCamp configuration or not Bootcamp partition that parallels accesses
7. Did you upgrade from a BETA No
8. With what Build did the problem start 3844 (started today)
9. If Parallels Tools are installed Yes
10. Anything you have tried to get things working Reinstalled version 3844
11. Anything specific about your set-up you think we should know Nothing specific. Generic install
12. If you are crashing, upload some crash logs It's not crashing. I just have no internet access
13. If you are getting an error message type it in and then attach a screenshot.
14. If you are having issues with a specific component (i.e. mouse, keyboard, monitor) tell us what it is. Local only network connection. Can't connect to anything.

This is Dale - I also posted to this issue and sent a seperate email "(Parallels #717647) [PD4] Error after 10.5.7 update" so I'm assuming you meant Dale instead of Andrew?
Anyway, I do confirm that all of your note below is ture and accurate.

Andrew, Dale, nwgray - thank you for your inputs. For now it is clear that wrong kexts are loaded. We are yet to understand where does it take them from.

Refused to find list of VMs or read existing .pvm files
After quitting and restarting Parallels a couple of times has fixed itself ?

Andrew, can you make sure that old kexts are really removed? This is done by "ls /System/Library/Extensions | grep prl" command. If the output is empty - then all is OK, the issue is solved. If it still shows kexts, the issue is not solved and may reappear in future. Will you please check this?

Yes - this issue is still there. I get the warning box upon starting my VM and have only local network connection when started up.
My kext is still the same after moving the extensions:
