I've tried this with all three of my VMs that were backed up from an earlier version of Parallels. All of them fail on the installation of Parallels Tools.
What now?
(Prior to using Parallels, initially, I used Fusion (2009). I forget why I migrated to Parallels (2012-ish?). I have tried a recent - 2016 - version of Fusion. What an experience that was. there is not a word to describe how slow the VM ran. So Fusion is not an option. If I had all my install CDs for OS and apps, I would do a fresh install but the CDs are in storage on the other end of the country.)
