Hi, can anyone help...?

I purchased Parallels of the website - since then I have been able to download newer versions etc. and add in the extra features (Smart Select etc.) with no problems.

My father-in law was impressed and has since purchased a MacBook and also bought Parallels but from the Mac store - this is in the UK. It was version 3 build 3124 (I think). He has no Smart Select etc and when you do a 'check for updates' it says there are none. If you download the latest beta build then all is ok apart from it only lasts 30 days which is no good for him.

What does he need to do to get a version with all the advertised features?

I have tried emailing support but the reply back did not explain how to get an update or answer the question (it seemed broken English?).

Any info or help much appreciated as I am keen for him to have a good, painless Mac experience.

I find the Mac Store often has out of date boxes

best if he demand his money back and start over with a download from here

I was even sold a dud copy of Norton Unitilies in Birmingham
got cash back of course

Thanks for the info but I dont thinnk he would be able to as it is around 6 or 7 weeks old now.....

I will try and download the latest build manually and see if it is supported on his UK license key....if not, how are the UK people supposed to stay up to date? Do I just give him my key as he has a legal version that wont update and I have a legal version that will? We are both registered with parallels....?
 
Hi andrew - I tried and it said the Key was invalid for this version. He has an official Box with an official code stuck on the manual that says version 3 (build 3124) purchased from Apple. I have emailed your support from his machine with his license code to see if it can be sorted? Currently he cant use parallels as it now wants a valid license. Weird.
I have updated to 5160 with no problems (and think it is excellent).

Looks like the problem here happened because your father has boxed version of Parallels Desktop 2.5, not 3.0. Build 3214 is the latest 2.5 version. So his key won't work for the 3.0 updates. He can either purchase an upgrade key for 3.0 with discount from our website at http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/ - "Upgrade to the current version" link or he can check this KB article to learn if he is able to receive 3.0 upgrade for free - http://kb.parallels.com/entry/15/453/
 
Ah - thanks. He will certainly be entitled to a free upgrade as he only purchased it about 8 weeks or so ago....I will use the details in the KB article. Many thanks for your help.
