Lingering serious bug: Windows Media DRM broken

In every revision of betas since the last full release, Windows Media Player will refuse to obtain a license for DRM'ed files. The totally unhelpful error is: "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player."

I would tend to say this is Microsoft's fault in their DRM and Windows Media Player (which is pure crap), but DRM'ed files still work correctly in Parallels Build 1970. So, something has changed along the way that broke it.

Since v 1970, have you deleted your DRM folder? DRM is very closely tied to the original machine. Chances are the "machine" changed drastically between versions and you'll need to reset the DRM. I can confirm that my install works fine with Yahoo! music.
 
The DRM folder isn't the issue. I can start with a totally clean copy of XP and the problem still exists with newly downloaded DRM'ed video. Again, works fine in build 1970. In fact, I can go back to 1970, boot with the same drive and it'll work fine.

Just as a thought... try reinstalling Windows from default in a different VM and don't activate it.

See if some free DRM'd media plays. (I.e. dont transfer over your paid-for stuff)

WinMedia DRM is tied to your hardware. Parallels has definately changed the simulated hardware over the past few revs, so this might have broken things.

If that does not work you can always un-DRM your media.
