Lost connection to the Net after wifi setup

I used Windows XP in PD to setup a Netgear WiFi network. Everything went splendid, I now have a new wifi network enjoyed by my Macs, but now XP cannot access the Net!

I thought I had prepared for this by backing up the folder that contains my XP, so when the problem occured, I thought I could just replace the old XP with the backup.

When this did not resolve the problem, I figured that the Netgear setup must have configured PD in some way (even though en1 is still set as a bridged ethernet/airport connection), so I did a complete reinstall of PD release candidate 1, but the problem is still there.

I did go into the control panels and try reconfigure the network settings in XP, and they look fine, but the problem persists.

I'm not a PC tech so I am out of ideas.
 
Here is some more information... Under Local Area Connection it says "Limited or no connectivity" with this:

"...The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"


Clicking the repair button is not able to resolve this.
 
Make sure the computer name of your OSX machine and your VM are different. Some folks seem to have found that to be the problem.
 
So I reinstalled Parallels Desktop again (first running the uninstall), and copied my backup of XP and still the problem persists.

I find it very odd that Netgear 802.11g software could cause a problem like this. What did it configure? Some invisible file on my drive?? And if so, why didn't the uninstall get rid of it?

I have no option but to try out Apple's boot camp, as I have important work to do this weekend. It would have been nice to see if my work could have been done entirely with virtualization, but I really needed this wifi up and running before I could commence with it.
 
Hi, dd you try to set a static IP address for the WinXP VM? Check out the sticky thread relating to setting up networking for a detailed explaination.
 
I found the Networking FAQ and it explained how to network via "Host-Only Network with Internet Sharing" and now I am back on the net.

Here were the steps I followed:

Turn on Internet Sharing

1. Open “System Preferences” and click “Sharing” in “Internet & Network” section
2. Select “Ethernet Adaptor (en2)” from “To computers using” list. Note that System Preferences shows Parallels Host-Guest Adapter as “Ethernet Adaptor (en2)” in this case.
3. Select the adapter you want sharing from in “Share your connection from” dropdown
4. Click “Start” button and confirm staring the service


The next step was to choose "Host-only networking; Virtual Network Adapter" in the Parallels preferences.


I am still puzzled as to why the other options to connect to the net are hosed. Why would the installation of Netgear running on XP within a VM screw up my Mac to VM networking??

I find that strange.
