lost internet Win 7

Hi! I hope someone can explain (in very simple terms) how I can get my internet back on Win 7.

I am running Windows 7 thru Parallels 5 build 5.0.9344 on a Mac OS X 10.6.3 on a practically new Macbook Pro. This worked fine the other day but no longer has internet connection.

When Windows is running, it says "currently connected to internet".

On the parallels section (with the little spiderweb decal) I have check marks next to "shared" and "shared networking".

But alas, no internet connection. I had Windows try to "diagnose" the problem, but it came up with nothing.

The Mac side connects fine to internet, wirelessly.

On the mac side, I went to terminal and ran "sudo killall -hup pvsnatd" (as was suggested on previous posts) and got the message "no matching processes were found".

Can anyone help?
 
On Network adapter:
It is checked next to "connected"
type: Shared network
MAC address: 00:1C:42:61:54:E8
checkmark next to "send Host's MAC address to DHCP server"

Does this tell anyone anything?
 
Try changing the type to "bridged" (use "Default adapter") and remove the checkmark next to "send Host's MAC address to DHCP server". Restart the VM. Does that help?
 
I changed to bridged, (it wouldn't let me remove checkmark for 'send hosts MAC address' and restarted. Reboot gives me this message: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (192.168.1.106). try connecting later.
 
Sorry, I forgot one (crucial) step: Shut down your virtual machine (but don't quit Parallels) and then try changing to "bridged (Default adapter)" and unchecking the "send host's MAC address" thingie. Restart.
 
... and if you shut down the VM, check (again) that the "send host's MAC address" box is UNchecked, quit Parallels, restart the Mac, restart Parallels...? I wonder why the "another device on the network is using..." message still comes up.
 
Thank you Shaddam for your replies. I have been out of town for a few days and haven't had time to tackle this issue until today.

I did what you said and still have no internet connection. This time, when I had Windows try to "diagnose" the problem, it actually came up with an issue, requesting that I unplug and reboot my modem (which I did). Now it gives me a message that "the connection between your access point, cable router or modem and the internet is broken."

What the heck do i do to fix that? I still have internet working just fine on the Mac side of this computer.

Very strange. I've looked at the problem report and don't see any problem. Are you interested in establishing the remote session and investigating the problem directly on your computer?

I'm available at 9AM-5PM GMT, working days.

Please post me via private message your email-address and time when the session is convinient, if you have some time for this. I will send you an instructions. I expect that the session will take about half an hour.

Meantime, please try to disable Parallels Internet Security (afair it can be done by clicking its icon in the tray) and check whether it helps (while you are in Shared Networking)
 
Just an update:

I did many things along the way, trying all sorts of suggestions from other forums to try to fix my problem. Ultimately, I reinstalled Windows and that did the trick.

And now everything is working again. The computer is happy, the internet is in my realm, and my programs (so far) seem to be working fine.
