Mac hanging on "preparing to upgrade your virtual machine"

When I tried to install the latest release of Parallels 7 the install seemed to go fine but on starting Windows it hangs about 20% of the way through the upgrading window - no change for 2 hours+.

How to get around this? Uninstall Parallels and reinstall?
 
Update

I tried to uninstall P7 and reinstall, but same result. The Mac freezes about 20% of the way through "Upgrading Windows 7". Anyone have any suggestions?
