Mac Update Prevents Parallels 6 from Booting

I've been out of the country on vacation. When I booted up my laptop this afternoon, there were major updates from Apple on Safari, Security, Airport, etc. I installed them and now cannot initiate Parallels. Given that the only reason I bought a Mac was to run Parallels with my Windows XP desktop configuration, I'm in big trouble. There is no recent backup (I backed up my main computers prior to my trip, but didn't bother with the laptop). SuperDuper can't install a single file (Parallels). I don't have Time Machine running. I can't figure out how to undo the blasted updates OR fix Parallels. I deliberately haven't upgraded to 7 because I will NEVER be running any Microsoft OS other than Windows XP so I don't need it. What on earth can I do? I'm dead in the water and supposed to work with the laptop tomorrow?????

Forgot to Add

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 . . . . there's been no need to upgrade the Mac OS either. Somebody please suggest something that might make it possible to use this laptop. Otherwise, it's nothing to me but a large, unwieldy paperweight.
 
Uninstalled X11

I uninstalled X11 in hopes of fixing this. I've repaired permissions on the disk. Somebody must have a clue what has happened to cause Parallels not to be able to load. I've looked at the console, but don't see anything except when I have to kill the bouncing icon for Parallels.
 
Console Message

All Console says is the following:
6/29/12 7:21:25 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[207] ([0x0-0x34034].com.parallels.desktop.console[1044]) Exited: Terminated

If I don't get a help response, I'm going to have to roll the laptop back to last December and I doubt I'll ever install an Apple update again! That's what I had to do with my Microsoft OS. I didn't expect Apple to be equally guilty. With no idea what caused the problem, I'm not willing to risk this again.
 
Solved Problem Caused by Avast

Turns out it was an updated version of Avast Free that messed things up. I removed File Scan from its options and Parallels loaded normally. Because I'd used Avast for years, I didn't think a new version would fail to recognize Parallels as legitimate. I hate to keep File Scanning turned off, but am willing to do so. Perhaps in the paid version of Avast I could designate this as an okay "process," but am not willing to fool with this now. Gotta get to work!
