Major Host Networking Problem

Last week I upgraded my Parallels 4.0 from build 3540 to build 3810. I was running Mac OS X 10.5.5 at the time (I've since upgraded to 10.5.6). My virtual machine is a Windows XP Bootcamp partition. Since then have had two major problems with the host OS X networking...

1) The Built-in Ethernet reports that the status is "Cable Unplugged" - even if I have a cable plugged in, a known definitely good cable.

2) The WiFi network that I was connected to at the time is no longer visible from the Mac, even though it is really there. Other WiFi networks have no problem.

Since then I have tried the following:

a) rebooting many times
b) upgrading to 10.5.6
c) zapping pram
d) logging into a new user

I have also confirmed that it is not a hardware problem by booting into Boot Camp. Both the Built-in Ethernet and WiFi (to that one network) worked in bootcamp.

Any ideas?
 
Stop VM and check Ethernet connection,
If problems are still there,
Delete all locations and shut down, start Mac
In System Preferences Network check what you can see now,
Automatic location should be recreated.
It seems to me that there are problems with Mac OS in network part, I hope it is only network locations corrupted files
 
I am not able to delete all locations. At least one location must remain. Once I get down to only having one location the delete button is disabled.
 
Nevertheless, your comments have helped... I was able to delete one of my locations... FYI, it was created by Verizon software for a 3G access card. Anyway, I deleted that, and tried to delete the Automatic one. Then I rebooted. Now the Built-in Ethernet is working again. The real test will come in about 9 hours when I get the laptop back to work. I'll update this thread once that is known.

When I got into the office the Built-in Ethernet did work! However, the WiFi did not work. Weird. I did try deleting and recreating the connection to the individual WiFi network. The weirdest thing is all the other WiFi networks are fine.
 
Probably your wifi requires security pass, or certiicate, in this case it will not work,
Also in Bridged Ethernet , try to select device Airport, or try Shared Networking
Jus make sure correct network settings are set, it should be by DHCP in case of sharing, manually or automatic (in case there is a DHCP source) in case of Bridged Ethernet
 
The WiFi network is WPA2 Personal, and does have a long password - which I have entered correctly. However, the problem is that the Mac doesn't even see it as a WiFi network... yes it does broadcast, and every other device can still see it. It is not a matter of signal strength. Every other WiFi network is no problem.

Built-in Ethernet and this one WiFi network were both active when Parallels 4 was installed/upgraded. Both of them broke subsequently... so, even though this is a Mac OS problem I am posting in a parallels forum because it seems that the parallels install is the cause.

BTW, I am using Shared Networking in the virtual machine.
